The Merano Grape Festival:

Always occurring on the third weekend of October, this is South Tyrol’s oldest and probably best-known harvest festival celebration. Since 1886 the city centre has filled with decorated floats, music, traditional costumes and thousands of merrymaking visitors. The celebration is accompanied each year by a wide programme of events. One highlight of the traditional celebration is the Sunday procession through the alleyways of the city. The colourful parade with its gaily decorated floats starts from the Vinschger Tor and continues along the Via delle Corse and the Corso della Libertà, along the Promenade, over the Piazza del Teatro and back to the Corso della Libertà. The parade is made up of bands, musicians and folk dancers as well as people in traditional outfits from all over South Tyrol and Germany, Switzerland and the Trentino.
