Wine walks

Walking through the wine landscape of Merano in the heart of South Tyrol

Wine walks – the active way to learn about wine
The landscape of the natural amphitheatre around Merano is an ideal starting point for gentle walks through the vineyards with wonderful views over the surrounding mountain world of the Meraner Land and the wide Adige Valley. Above all, the popular Waalwege (paths along the historic irrigation channels) near Marlengo, Lagundo, Scena and Caines repeatedly cross through the vineyards and lead along the open channels (Waale) past traditional pergolas and more modern training systems.
Waalweg on the Vinschgau Sonnenberg: a beautiful walk runs from Castelbello through farms and winegrowing estates along the “Tscharser Waalweg” to just below Reinhold Messner’s residence, Castle Juval. It is possible to return via the “Stabener Waalweg”.
The “Marlengo Waalweg” is one of South Tyrol’s most beautiful Waalwege and is particularly well-suited to families with children.
On request the Meran Burggräfler Winery, in co-operation with the tourist office of Tirolo, can offer special vineyard tours giving an idea of the work in the vineyards.

Törggelen: autumn means törggelen, where the new wine is served up in traditional inns together with hearty rural fare, followed by roast chestnuts and sweet delicacies. The tradition of törggelen is a wonderful autumn experience after a gentle walk with views of the autumn colours in the vineyards of Merano and its surroundings.
