The Empress Sissi in Merano:

In the 19th century the climate and landscape inspired well-travelled nobles, artists and men of letters to take the cure in Merano. Soon honourable representatives of Europe’s high aristocracy were strolling along the Passirio Promenade and coming to take the cure in Merano. Some one hundred years after the visit of the Empress Elisabeth of Austria (“Sissi”), the new Therme Merano hot baths have re-established the town not just as a health resort, but also as a winegrowing area. The Meraner Land and the Vinschgau now rank as one of the top cultivation areas in South Tyrol and Italy.
The Meran Burggräfler Winery has named its award-winning Goldmuskateller/Gewürztraminer “Sissi” sweet wine after the Empress Elisabeth of Austria.
